COLUMBIA, S.C. | Sophomore quarterback Michael Adams ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more on Saturday to lead Benedict College to a 35-0 victory over Stillman College in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.
Adams gained 107 yards on 13 carries, with his longest gain going for a 61-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He completed 7 of 14 passes for 193 yards and one interception.
Stillman gained 100 yards rushing on 33 attempts. Chester Hightower led Stillman with 69 yards on 22 carries. His longest run went for 23 yards.
The Benedict defense intercepted five passes and allowed 48 passing yards. Stillman quarterback Ryant Denton completed 3 of 12 passes for 26 yards. He threw four interceptions. Desmond Holloway, who began the season as a wide receiver, completed 6 of 10 passes for 22 yards. Larry Harris threw one pass, and it was intercepted.
Benedict’s Marquez Gibson had two interceptions, and Anthony Davis, DeQuan Starling and Cordell Rodgers had one each.
Benedict (1-4, 1-3) drove 82 yards in 10 plays for its first touchdown. Adams scored on a 6-yard run with 22 seconds left in the first quarter, and Andy Polanco kicked the first of his five extra points.
Rodgers intercepted a Denton pass and scored on a 12-yard return with 14:53 left in the second quarter.
Benedict drove 83 yards in four plays to take a 21-0 lead. Adams, who started the drive with a 28-yard run, threw a 52-yard scoring pass to Kareem Dunlap, who finished with two catches for 88 yards.
In the fourth quarter, Adams’s 61-yard touchdown run completed a drive of 85 yards in five plays. Benedict’s final touchdown came on a 52-yard pass from Adams to Emmanuel Houston with 6:37 left.
Benedict gained 536 yards in total offense, including 343 rushing yards.
Damian Ford led Stillman with four receptions for 19 yards. Ronald Davis caught two passes for 18 yards.
Safety Michael Ricks led Stillman with 9 tackles. Antonio Salter, Rico Butler and Johnny Franklin each recorded a sack, and Lakeevis Tabb intercepted a pass.
Stillman plays at Clark Atlanta University next Saturday.
