FEDERAL PELL GRANT PROGRAM
This is a grant available to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need based on the Federal Methodology Formula. Undergraduate students may receive a Pell Grant award ranging from $555 to $5,550 per year.
FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT (FSEOG)
This is a grant available to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. The award ranges from $200 to $4,000 based on availability.
STATE GRANTS
Alabama Student Grants are applied directly to your account. Any excess funds will be Returned as a refund.
Alabama Student Assistance Program funds are applied directly to your account. Any excess funds will be returned as a refund.
Institutional Aid (e.g. Academic Scholarships, Performance, Institutional Scholarships, Grant-in-Aid awards and others) will be applied against your account. These programs do not generate any excess cash and no refund should be anticipated.
Alabama Student Grant Program - These funds are awarded to documented residents of the State of Alabama. Funds are designed to assist residents in meeting educational cost. To secure aid, you must apply, and reapply each year that aid is needed. The State of Alabama provides the application form to the College for distribution and determines the size of each award.
Alabama Student Assistance Program – The goal of the Alabama Student Assistance program is to provide financial assistance to residents of the State of Alabama for Post Secondary Education in the State of Alabama. The Alabama Student Assistance Program is administered in accordance with Policies and Procedures established by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.
Alabama Teacher Recruitment Incentive Program (ATRIP) An eligible applicant must be a legal resident of Alabama enrolled as a full-time student in a teacher education program in the field of Math, Special Education, General Science and English Language Arts or other projected needs areas at an institution with a teacher education program approved by the Alabama State department of Education. The applicants must enter into an agreement with the Alabama Commission on Higher Education to teach in the public schools of Alabama for each year an award is received. The applicants must also be classified as an undergraduate or an Alternative Class A students and demonstrates a record of high performance in the area of certification (Alternative Class A students only). An applicant is applying for a scholarship loan which he/she must repay if you do not: (a) complete the courses for which scholarship loan assistance is received, (b) do not maintain full-time enrollment status and/or (c) do not maintain the specified grade point average. Other Grants
Academic Competitiveness Grant Program (AC grant)
An eligible student may receive an Academic Competitiveness Grant (AC Grant) of up to $750 for the first academic year of study and up to $1300 for the second academic year of study. To be eligible for each academic year, a student must:
- Be a U. S. citizen;
- Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient;
- Be enrolled full-time in a degree program;
- Be enrolled in a first or second academic year of his or her program of study at a two-year or four-year degree-granting institution;
- Have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study (after January 1, 2006, if a first-year student, and after January 1, 2005, if a second-year student)’
- If a second-year student, have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (as set forth in regulations to be promulgated soon) for the first academic year.
National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART grant)
An eligible student may receive a National SMART Grant of up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth academic years of study. To be eligible for each academic year, a student must:
- Be a U.S. citizen:
- Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient;
- Be enrolled full-time in a degree program;
- Be enrolled in a four-year degree-granting institution;
- Major in physical, life or computer science, engineering, mathematics, technology, or a critical foreign language; and
- Have at least a cumulative 3.00 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (as set forth in regulations to be promulgated soon).
TEACH Grant Program- Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congress created the Teacher Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. In exchange for receiving a TEACH Grant, you must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students. As a recipient of a TEACH Grant, you must teach for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing the program of study for which received a TEACH Grant. IMPORTANT: If you fail to complete this service obligation, all amounts of TEACH Grants that you received will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. You must then repay this loan to the U. S. Department of Education. You will be charged interest from the date the grant(s) was disbursed.
