DUAL ENROLLMENT

WHAT IS A RETURNING STUDENT?

Stillman College allows students to earn both high school and college credit in select courses (this is commonly referred to as “dual enrollment” or “early college start”). Stillman offers two types of dual enrollment:

  • Dual Enrollment through partnerships with local school districts
  • Independent Dual Enrollment for students wanting to pursue college courses on their own

Currently, students are only able to participate in dual enrollment opportunities through workforce training grants or private family contribution. TCS knows the value of beginning college while in high school and through ELEVATE, this can be a reality for all students. In 2020-2021, ELEVATE funds will be used to provide every student with up to six credit hours of college-level work while in high school. For the 2021-2022 cycle and beyond, eligible students may earn up to nine credit hours of college-level work while in high school.

To qualify, students must (2021-2022 cohort and beyond):

Attend a TCS high school at least one year prior to taking courses as part of the ELEVATE Dual Enrollment Scholarship program.

Live in the Tuscaloosa City Schools’ residential attendance zones (or be dependant of a TCS employee).

Meet institutions’ minimum grade point average requirements.

Independent Dual Enrollment

Interested high school students may apply for spring, fall, or summer classes through Stillman’s independent Dual Enrollment Program.

Dual enrollment provides opportunities for students to earn college credit while still in high school and decreases the time a student spends in college.  In addition to saving time, the affordable cost of dual enrollment saves money for students and their families.

Requirements

  • Must complete a Stillman College Dual Enrollment application
  • Must submit a current high school transcript

Cost

All students enrolled in Independent dual enrollment are responsible for the cost of all tuition fees.

Tuition and fees

$300 per 3 hour credit course.
