Lady Tigers sweep LeMoyne Owen

MEMPHIS, Tenn. | The Stillman College women’s softball team collected a pair of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins at LeMoyne Owen on Wednesday, winning the first game of a doubleheader 8-5 and the second 11-1.
The Lady Tigers (10-14, 3-3) play LeMoyne Owen again today in another conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
Stillman won the first game in extra innings. With the game tied at 5, the teams used the International Tiebreaker Rule where a runner is placed on second.
Batting in the top of the eighth and with two outs, Tanisha Edwards doubled to center field to score Gabby Quarles from second for what would be the winning run. Stillman scored two more times, with two outs in the inning, to ice the win.
Danielle Hewett, who pitched both complete games and is now 8-12, gave up five runs, three earned off 11 hits, walking none and striking out five in the first game.
Losing pitcher was Meri Napier, who also pitched a complete game. She gave up eight runs, six earned off 14 hits. She struck out five and walked none.
At the plate for Stillman, Nish Nelson was 3-for-5 with three singles and three stolen bases, one RBI and two runs scored. Quarles was 2-for-4 with two singles, two RBIs and a run scored. Hewett was 2-for-4 with a double, a single, two RBIs and a run scored. Edwards was 2-for-4 with a double, single and an RBI. Janay Hudson was 2-for-4 with two singles, three stolen bases, one RBI and three runs scored.
In the second game, a five-inning 11-1 win by Stillman, Hewett pitched a one-hitter. The hit was a triple at the bottom of the fifth. She gave up one run, one hit, stuck out seven and walked one.
Napier took the loss on the mound for LeMoyne Owen.
Hudson was 2-for-4 with four singles, three stolen bases and three runs scored for Stillman. Quarles was 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, four RBIs and a stolen base. Adrina Sconiers was 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, two stolen bases, an RIB and two runs.
