Lt. General Willie Williams to Speak at Joint Veterans Day Program
Tuscaloosa, Ala. ~ Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority announces the 2013 Veterans Day Program is scheduled for November 11 at 10 a.m. in Veterans Memorial Park located at 1701 McFarland Blvd. in Tuscaloosa.
For the first time, the event will be combining programs with PARA’s Veterans Memorial Park Committee and the Veterans Administration Medical Center. The featured speaker will be Lt. General Willie J. Williams, Retired USMC Director of the Marine Corps Staff.
In addition to the keynote speaker, a special feature will include the reenactment of the Iwo Jima flag raising. The Presentation of Colors, a salute to our veterans and patriotic music are additional highlights.
Representatives from the VAMC will be on hand after the program to answer questions and enroll veterans and their families into programs/services for which they are eligible.
Retired Lt. General Willie Williams became the Director of the Marine Corps Staff in 2011, making him third in command for the entire Marine Corps behind only the commandant and the assistant commandant. To date, he is one of only four African-American Marines to wear three stars.
Lt. General Williams received his B.A. degree in business from Stillman College and was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps in May, 1974. He later received M.A. degrees from National University in San Diego, California in 1992, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
