Stillman College will hold a free faculty recital featuring opera arias heard in the movies Philadelphia, Moonstruck, Fatal Attraction and Diva. Three highly acclaimed musicians will perform in the program, which will be held on Monday, September 10, 7 p.m., in the Warner Presentation Room in the Wynn Fine Arts Center on the Stillman campus.  



Soprano Luvada A. Harrison, who serves as Interim Chair and Associate Professor of Music at Stillman, will be accompanied by pianist Hye-Sook Jung, Assistant Professor of Music at Stillman. They will be joined by award winning tenor Roderick George, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Montevallo.  



Dr. Jung has performed frequently on the Alabama Public Television series “The Pianists at Work,” and is a past recipient of the Narramore Music Scholar Award. She was a winner of the Concerto and Aria competition, and was featured on Alabama Public Television performing a solo with the Huxford Symphony Orchestra.   She has collaborated with numerous local, regional and international artists, and has performed in four cities in South Korea.  



Dr. Harrison made her Carnegie Hall debt as a soloist with the Manhattan Philharmonic and her Lincoln Center debut in Alice Tully Hall with the New York Choral Society as the soprano soloist in Rossini’s Stabat Mater.  She performed off-Broadway as the opera singer in Prelude and Liebstod by Tony Award winner Terrence McNally. She also played Aida in the “Drama Queens” episode on HBO’s hit series Sex in the City.  She has performed with regional opera companies and symphony orchestras throughout the United States and Europe.  



Dr. George holds a Doctor of Music degree in voice performance from the College of Music at The Florida State University, a Master of Music degree in Opera and Music Theater from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), and undergraduate degrees in music and English from Stillman College.  He received advanced training in opera at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and he was an artist in residence with Amarillo Opera and an apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera.  He has been a featured soloist in several orchestral concerts in Austria. He completed two concert tours of Spain and has been a featured artist in concerts with Opera Noire of New York for the Vineyard Playhouse African-American Festival of Theater and Music on Martha’s Vineyard.  A champion of the African American art song, Dr. George recently premiered Adolphus Hailstork’s Four Romantic Love Songs for tenor and piano on poems of Dunbar at the 2012 African American Art Song Alliance Conference at the University of California, Irvine.
