Introducing Miss Stillman: Adora Ihediwa
- 10-11-2010

"A Night on Broadway" was the theme for the coronation of Miss Stillman College 2010-2011, Adora Ihediwa.
Ihediwa, a twenty-one year old senior from Huntsville, Alabama, was officially crowned on September 23 in Birthright Auditorium. A music major with a concentration in vocal performance, Ihediwa is a member of the Delta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Stillman Student Government Association (SGA), Stillman Concert Choir and Epsilon Sigma Alpha International. Her scholastic honors include dean's list since 2007.
First attendant, Kheri Lusain and second attendant, Mikia Peavy, also participated in the coronation. The class queens along with campus queens for residence halls and organizations were also included.
Ihediwa began her education at Stillman in the fall of 2007 and is currently a graduating senior. Ihediwa said when she arrived at Stillman, she knew she wanted to be involved in student life. “My sophomore year I was selected for the position of Senior Representative to the Board of Trustees. Being a part of the SGA prepared me for leadership roles as well as effectively working in groups. The Miss Stillman position requires patience and organization, as well as excellent oratorical skills, all of which I acquired while working with the SGA,” she said.
Ihediwa attributed her desire to be Miss Stillman to wanting to “be an ambassador for the institution as well as a role model.” She continued, “Also, I wanted to implement my platform because throughout my matriculation, I noticed a number of students who had low self esteem and I felt that I could make a difference. I am tremendously excited about implementing my platform, which is, ‘Promoting Positive Body and Self Image,’ and overall, taking an active role in Stillman, as well as the Tuscaloosa community.”
When reflecting on what have been the most enjoyable aspects in her new role as Miss Stillman thus far, she said, she loved meeting all the new people and working with the other campus queens. She identified the most challenging aspect as balancing the busy life of a student along with her duties as Miss Stillman. “Before the coronation,” she smiled and said, it seemed like every time I tried to get some rest, my mind was buzzing through a list of all the things I still need to get done!
