Stillman Professor Inducted into Hall of Heritage at SUNY-Brockport
Dr. Donald Staffo, Professor and Department Chair Emeritus of Health and Physical Education at Stillman College, was inducted into the Hall of Heritage at the State University of New York at Brockport on September 17. This is SUNY Brockport's most prestigious honor. Staffo's many honors include 3 national awards, 4 state awards, 1 Southern District award, 5 Stillman awards, and 8 alumni awards, including the highest honors accorded by 4 of his 5 alma maters.
In addition to Brockport, Staffo has been inducted into The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology Hall of Fame and the Stillman College Zeta Phi Beta Hall of Fame and is the recipient of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Honor Award (2nd highest national award), AAHPERD Charles Henry Award (3rd highest national award), and the National Health and Fitness Association Henderson Leadership Award (highest NHFA national award).
Staffo’s other honors include the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Honor Award (highest state professional award), ASAHPERD Ethnic Minority Leader Award, ASAHPERD PRIDE (Professional Responsibility for Delivering Excellence) Award, Southern District Spark Plug Award, The Ohio State University Alumni Award of Distinction, Fulton-Montgomery Community College Distinguished Alumni Award, and the SUNY Brockport Outstanding Alumni in the Spotlight. He is the only person to receive Stillman’s top 4 awards (Gore Teacher of the Year, Faculty Scholar Award, Faculty Advising Award, and Humanitarian of the Year) and the only faculty member to receive the scholar award twice. Staffo is the first Stillman faculty member or chairman to ever be given the title emeritus. He is also the recipient of the Alabama Press Association first place award for best sports feature story.
