Tuscaloosa, AL—March 11, 2011—Stillman College will present an undergraduate showcase featuring five undergraduate writers on April 2, in Stinson Auditorium. The Slash Pine Writer’s Festival, a reading tour hosted and created by Slash Pine Projects, will follow this undergraduate showcase. The portion of the event that will be held at Stillman is Saturday, April 2, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. in Stinson Auditorium. The undergraduate showcase will begin at 6 p.m. and upon its completion, the Slash Pine Writer’s Festival will commence.

The readings to take place at Stillman are part of the Slash Pine Writer’s Festival and will feature established writers including: Carmen Giminez Smith, Brian Barker, Dr. Norman Golar, Chair of the English Department at Stillman, Juan Reyes, Cade Collum, Emma Sovich and Willie James King.

Slash Pine Projects originates from the Department of English at The University of Alabama.  The Slash Pine Writer’s Festival brings over forty national and regional poets together for a four-day extravaganza filled with workshops, panel discussions, and creative writing reading events.  Day 3 and Day 4 feature readings at different venues, giving local residents, local college communities, and local / regional travelers the opportunity to experience writers reading their respective creative writing (poetry and creative nonfiction).  

Different groups of readers are scheduled to read at different venues around Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Northport, Ala.  The tour's first reading event will take place at the Gorgas House at The University of Alabama on Friday, April 1, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., then shift to the Children's Hands On Museum from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. On Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., the readings will be held at the Sarah Moody Gallery at The University of Alabama; then migrate to Little Willie's in Downtown Tuscaloosa from 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. followed by readings from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. at Stinson Auditorium on Stillman campus. The final readings will take place at the Bama Theatre later that evening from 10 p.m. -12:30 a.m.
