Wariso Takes Advantage of Summer Internship at Vanderbilt
- 8-2-2011
Stillman’s Bathsheba Wariso is busy in the lab this summer, as she has been awarded the opportunity to participate in a summer internship at the Vanderbilt University.
A Sacramento, Cal., native, Wariso is a biology/pre-med major. She found out about the program through the Director of Scholarship Programs, Mary Jackson.
“I am currently in a bioengineering laboratory where I am working on characterizing different qualities of surface tension valves. The ultimate goal of my lab team is to develop a way to process patient samples in low resource settings by using a self-contained cassette that will be relatively inexpensive and easy-to-use,” said Wariso. “I've learned countless things about the value of technology and how it can be used to help people throughout the world. I've also learned how we can use simple ideas and build upon them to create new advancements in technology.”
“I have truly enjoyed my experience here at Vanderbilt University. Meeting new people and learning about a new field has been all that I hoped it would be. I know that I've been blessed with this opportunity and I plan to make the most out of it as well as other opportunities like it as I continue to pursue my career goals.”
