Welcome Alumni

Welcome Stillman College Alumni & Friends!   It is a pleasure to offer you this source of information for alumni happenings and other alumni-related matters.  Here you can check on upcoming alumni events (Homecoming, 50-Year Reunion, etc.), chapter activities, opportunities to get involved and or make a donation.

It is our goal to encourage and foster lifelong alumni participation, involvement, and commitment. Over the next several months and years it will be our goal to strengthen the bond between the College and our alumni; to create programs which match the interests and needs of the alumni; to maintain and build upon the positive relationships we have with our more seasoned alumni; to increase the participation, involvement, and communication with our younger alumni; and to continue to serve as the primary communications link between the College and its alumni. Upon graduation from college, you automatically become a member of the National Alumni Association of Stillman College, Incorporated (NAASC).  Every person who attended Stillman as a full-time student for at least one term (semester) qualifies for membership.

The Historic Stillman House (HSH) is the home of the NAASC located at:  1008 21st Avenue, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Our founder, Dr. Charles A. Stillman, purchased this house for Stillman (then Stillman Institute) in 1881 and it remained the main campus for training African American Presbyterian ministers until 1897. In 1981, the house was restored and deeded to the NAASC. The HSH was renovated in 2009 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is our oldest building representing Stillman’s early period of development. Today, the house serves as a culture center for after-school tutorial programs, community organization meetings, and small receptions etc.

Please stay in touch with us!  It is a constant challenge to keep our alumni records updated and accurate data is vital to our success.  Contact us by telephone, snail mail, or email with news of a new address or telephone number, job change, promotions, and deaths.  We would especially appreciate your e-mail addresses.

We welcome you as a part of the SC Alumni family and we hope to see you back on campus soon! We hope that you will stay connected and involved with this ever-growing institution. We are here to help you in any way! If you have questions or need more information about Stillman or any alumni happenings, have suggestions or new ideas, interested in forming a new alumni chapter, please feel free to contact us.

Office of Alumni Affairs Focus & Goals

Focus

The purpose of the Stillman College Office of Alumni Affairs is to promote the mission of the College through the establishment of mutually beneficial relations between the College and its alumni; help support the College through growth and development; and serve, inform, connect, and engage alumni in an effort to cultivate a strong and vibrant community through active lifelong relationships. It further seeks to be the primary conduit for keeping alumni updated and informed with current news, events, and happenings of the Stillman College community and its members; utilize technology and other mediums to provide timely, high quality, and succinct communications; and educate, promote and communicate the College’s traditions, purposes, growth, and development.

This office strives to cultivate continuous communication and favorable relationships between Stillman College and its alumni, establish programs and events that benefit alumni and Stillman College, and enlighten and encourage currently enrolled students to establish giving patterns and become actively involved in college-related programs. As demonstrated by our regular email notifications, this office further enhances the College’s reputation by seeking out and promoting alumni success stories in which the College’s mission of educating and developing the whole person is demonstrated, and by informing alumni of news that they will find of interest.

Numerous programs and services have been designed to enhance both the student and alumni experience. We are working hard to provide the services that we know are critical to keeping you engaged and connected.

Programs have been put in place to better enhance the Office of Alumni Affairs which includes:

  • Enhanced Alumni Page on College website
  • The strengthening of the Stillman College Pre-Alumni Council to connect our students to alumni and help establish and maintain Stillman College traditions.
  • The development of affinity groups to connect our students to alumni in areas of interest.
  • The development of a young alumni program to engage our more recent graduates.
  • The creation of a comprehensive volunteer program to allow alumni the opportunity of giving back.

Goals

  • Communicate current, meaningful information about Stillman to alumni and friends of the College on a regular basis.
  • Increase participation in SCNAA-sponsored programs in terms of numbers, geography and diversity.
  • Expand opportunities for alumni to maintain their relationships with one another.
  • Cultivate an understanding of engagement philanthropy with students so they will become active alumni.
  • Enhance and enrich the experiences of students through interaction with alumni.
  • Elevate Stillman’s reputation and raise its visibility in the local, region and world-wide community.
  • Engage in an ongoing planning process to meet the needs of an ever-changing alumni body.

None of these programs or goals will be successful without your personal and financial support, so please consider the ways that you’d like to see yourself involved. Whether it’s attending College-sponsored alumni functions, mentoring a student, or volunteering to solicit monetary contributions to the College, you are needed. The Office of Alumni Affairs exists solely to nurture the close relationship between the College and alumni.

We look forward to your direct personal and financial involvement in the life of Stillman College and appreciate your feedback as this office continues to grow and develop. Please direct your comments to Jean Wilson-Sykes, Director of Alumni Affairs, at jwilson-sykes@stillman.edu
