Job Title: Senior Accountant

Department: Finance and Administration

Reports to: Vice President of Finance and Admin

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant at Stillman College will be responsible for managing and overseeing various financial functions within the college’s Finance division. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The Senior Accountant at Stillman College will be responsible for managing and overseeing various financial functions within the college’s Finance division. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and maintain financial records accurately.
  • Budget Management: Assist in the development and monitoring of the college’s annual budget. Provide financial insights and recommendations to optimize resource allocation.
  • Accounts Receivable/Payable: Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger and reconcile accounts. Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis, variance analysis, and forecasting to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Audit and Compliance: Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to Business Office staff, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Financial Systems: Utilize financial software and tools effectively, recommending upgrades or enhancements as needed to streamline processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience in a higher education setting is a plus.
