TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College’s School of Education recently received full accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
The accreditation status of initial-license level is effective between Fall 2024 and Fall 2030. The next site review will take place in Spring 2030. The initial-license level is provided at baccalaureate levels that lead to an initial license.
Stillman was among 30 institutions across 18 states to receive accreditation in Fall 2024.
The accreditation process was first pursued in 2006, but it was completed under the leadership of Dr. Sharon J. Porterfield and her team. Porterfield joined Stillman College as Dean of the School of Education in 2022.
“Achieving CAEP Accreditation ensures that Stillman College graduates are trained according to the highest standards for the Initial-Licensure Level. Our students will be welcomed in any school, whether public, private, or charter, due to their national training. Stillman College’s School of Education is recognized for its commitment to excellence, and we continue to uphold that standard in 2025,” said Dr. Porterfield.
Stillman College’s School of Education includes three academic departments and 10 academic programs that are home to 23% of Stillman’s student body. The Department of Education, chaired by Dr. Dorothy Richardson, includes collaborative teacher / special education K-6, elementary education K-6, English language arts (6-12), general science 6-12, and mathematics (6-12).
