TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College crowned its royalty during its annual Coronation Ceremony in Birthright Alumni Hall on Saturday evening, Nov. 2.
Nya D. Fowler was crowned the 77th Miss Stillman and Kenyatta L. Lewis Jr was crowned the 4th Mister Stillman.
The standing-room only event, which kicked off Stillman’s 148th Founder’s Week, featured a “Fire and Ice” theme.
Fowler, a native of Hueytown, Alabama, is a senior biology major and has begun taking graduate classes at the University of Alabama. She previously served as Miss Junior 2023-2024 and is a member of the Epsilon Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and captain of Golden Perfection Dance. She was crowned by Jean A. Wilson (’90), who was the 42nd Miss Stillman and serves as Stillman’s director of alumni affairs.
Lewis, a native of the Bahamas, is a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in cybersecurity and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.. He is a former intern for ARD logistics and is currently interning with The Coley Agency in Tuscaloosa. He was crowned by Thomas Davis Jr (’13), a Royal Court advisor and Upward Bound counselor.
Both Fowler and Lewis fought back tears as they reminisced of their path to Stillman College during the COVID-19 pandemic and the support of their family, friends, professors and staff during their academic career.
Lewis took a moment to honor the memory of the late Dr. Kevin Harris, who died earlier this year.
A pre-recorded moment of reflection was played as Devinya Fowler, the 76th Miss Stillman, and Jordan Wilson, the 3rd Mister Stillman — who served from 2023-2024 — took their final walk prior to their assistance in crowning the 2024-2025 queen and king. Founded in 1876, Stillman College began the Miss Stillman tradition in 1928 and added the Mister Stillman tradition in 2021.
Stillman College’s eight president, Dr. Yolanda W. Page opened the night with a welcome message, prior to various music, spoken word and dance performances. Dr. Norman Golar, vice president of institutional effectiveness and research, issued the Royal Installation, followed by the royal toast by J. Maxwell Kimbrough, dean of student life.
In preparation for the crowning of the 2024-2025 Miss Stillman and Mister Stillman, the Campus Queens and Royal Court entered the room.
