About Dr. John Giggie
Dr. Giggie is widely recognized for his scholarship on the history of the American South, the Civil Rights Movement, and religion. He is the author of Bloody Tuesday: The Untold Story of the Struggle for Civil Rights in Tuscaloosa, which highlights the heroism of Stillman faculty, staff, and students, including Mrs. Willie Wells and Ms. Dorothy Richardson. The book also acknowledges the contributions of Ms. Evelyn King, who provided critical source material from Stillman’s Sheppard Library.
In a recent article for Time magazine, Dr. Giggie reflected on Bloody Tuesday’s legacy and described Stillman as “one of the jewels of Black higher education.” The article can be found here: How Tuscaloosa’s ‘Bloody Tuesday’ Changed the Course of History.
