The TRIO Upward Bound Academic Advisor will establish, coordinate, and conduct activities to provide services and support to high school students from low-income backgrounds and/or will be the first in their families to attend college. The successful candidate will provide services to current participants and recruit new students during high school visits, assist in the planning and implementation of the 6-week residential summer program, oversee the programming component (i.e. enrichment activities and events) of the summer residential program and academic year Saturday sessions, and work in collaboration with three other UB staff to develop policies and processes. Requires frequent night and weekend work. This is a 12-month full-time position.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to recruitment and documentation, academic services, workshops, events, college visits, and summer coordination.
Minimum Qualifications● Bachelor's degree● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills● Able to work independently with minimal supervision● Valid driver's license and the ability to drive state vehicles or rental vehicles for school visits and field trips● Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students, staff, and administration● Background or experience aligning with that of target population● Experience planning programming (i.e. educational and enrichment activities and experiences)● Knowledge of career development, college admissions, and study skills
Preferred Qualifications● Master's degree● Knowledge of target area (Greene, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties)● Knowledge of recruitment strategies for limited-income and first generation students● Prior TRIO experience

Salary will be $40,000-$45,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
