Stillman College invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Music – Brass. We seek a dedicated and collaborative musician-educator to support the department’s mission of excellence in teaching, performance, and student mentorship.
The successful candidate will provide instruction in undergraduate applied brass courses and conducting, support student performances and assessments, and contribute to the recruitment and retention efforts of the Department of Fine Arts. Additional teaching assignments may be made based on departmental needs and the candidate’s qualifications.
Primary Responsibilities● Teach undergraduate music courses including:○ MUS 113 Principles of Applied Brass○ MUS 213 Principles of Applied Brass○ MUS 313 Principles of Applied Brass○ MUS 413 Principles of Applied Brass○ MUS 426 Conducting
● Provide instruction in both high brass and low brass applied lessons● Prepare students for juries, recitals, Sophomore Qualifying Exams, and Senior Exit Exams
● Assist with preparation and coordination of student juries, recitals, and departmental performances● Support recruitment, retention, and mentoring of music students● Maintain accurate records of student progress and assessment● Participate in departmental meetings and activities as appropriate.● Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment● Be available for occasional evening or weekend performances/events
Required Qualifications● Master’s degree in Music required; DMA preferred in Brass Performance, Music Performance, Music Education, Conducting, or a related field.● Demonstrated expertise in teaching both high brass and low brass● Minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in music for teaching academic music courses in compliance with accreditation standards● Demonstrated successful teaching experience in brass pedagogy, brass performance, and/or conducting.● Ability to teach both applied lessons and academic music courses● Strong commitment to student success and mentoring● Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications● DMA or terminal degree in Brass Performance, Conducting, or a related field.● College-level teaching experience● Experience working in small liberal arts colleges and/or HBCU environments● Experience supporting band programs and instrumental ensemble development● Experience with student recruitment, curriculum development, and assessment processes
