Description

Stillman College invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Photography for Spring 2027. The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate Introduction to Photography course with an emphasis on foundational digital photography techniques, visual composition, and creative expression. We seek a knowledgeable and student-centered instructor who can introduce students to the technical and artistic foundations of photography through hands-on instruction, assignments, and critique.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach ART 230 – Introduction to Photography at the undergraduate level.
  • Provide instruction in foundational digital photography concepts and techniques, including camera operation, exposure, lighting, composition, and image-making.
  • Introduce students to basic digital image processing and editing techniques as appropriate to the course.
  • Develop hands-on assignments and projects that encourage technical development, visual communication, and creative expression.
  • Lead critiques and provide constructive feedback on student work.
  • Evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance, assignments, and grades.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and provide appropriate academic support.
  • Submit grades, attendance records, and other required materials according to College deadlines.
  • Participate in departmental activities and meetings as appropriate.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Photography, Fine Arts, Studio Art, or a closely related field, or appropriate graduate-level preparation in the teaching discipline. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of photographic techniques and visual composition.  
  • Ability to effectively teach photography to undergraduate students with varying levels of experience. 
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MFA or other terminal degree in Photography, Fine Arts, Studio Art, or a related field. 
  • Previous college-level teaching experience
  • Professional or creative experience in photography. 
  • Familiarity with both traditional and contemporary photographic practices.
