Description

The Custodial Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all custodial operations across the campus. This position provides leadership and direction to custodial staff and ensures that campus facilities are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality. The Supervisor also plans, manages, and supports facility and custodial operations related to campus events, including those occurring during evening and early morning hours, as needed.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and direct activities involved in the cleaning and maintenance of college buildings, grounds, and facilities.
  • Oversee daily custodial operations including classrooms, offices, lounges, restrooms, hallways, athletic and pool facilities.
  • Monitor waste collection and disposal processes to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Research and recommend purchases of cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Participate in planning and administering departmental budgets related to custodial supplies and equipment maintenance.
  • Provide supervision, scheduling, and performance management for custodial personnel.
  • Ensure timely preparation and cleanup for campus events; respond to maintenance-related emergencies and provide troubleshooting as needed.
  • Establish routine inspection programs to ensure cleanliness standards and compliance with safety, fire, and health regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement cleaning schedules and documentation for all college buildings.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate custodial staff; coordinate ongoing in-service training programs.
  • Serve on campus committees and perform additional related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in custodial or facilities operations.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff in custodial or facility maintenance environments.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Best practices in custodial and facilities maintenance.
  • Budget control, procurement, and personnel management.
  • OSHA and health/safety regulations, fire and sanitation codes.
  • Custodial equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Appropriate chemical handling and storage.
  • Microsoft Office applications and work order software.

Ability to:

  • Interpret and apply relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor custodial programs and procedures.
  • Effectively supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare clear reports.
  • Manage budgets and control expenses.
  • Establish effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and administration.
  • Operate college vehicles and respond to on-site custodial needs.

Working Conditions:Environment: Work is performed in both office and facility settings; may involve exposure to cleaning agents, dust, fumes, and odors.Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly; perform tasks involving bending, climbing, walking long distances, and operating equipment.

Work Schedule (a full-time, 12-month in-person position)

Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (possible variations, such as occasional evening or weekend work depending on the organizational events)

This position is paid on a biweekly basis at an hourly rate of $12.50.
