Summary:
The Residence Hall Living Assistant is a ten (10) month position primarily responsible for coordinating and implementing the operation of assigned desk and lobby areas in residence halls. The position is responsible for facilitating the resources, policies and procedures to support the education and safety of residents, guests, and staff of Housing and Residence Life.
Requirements:
High school diploma; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of (1) year experience in office management, or a clerical or administrative assistant role.
Be able to sit for a long period of time during shifts remaining alert and aware of the assigned area.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) to meet residents’ needs.
Must be able to lift 15-25 pounds. S/he must possess the physical ability to climb stairs, climb a ladder, squat, bend, and walk short/long distances.
Be able to work up to 25 hours per week. Availability to work early mornings, early evenings, late nights, and weekends is expected.
Report situations that may jeopardize the safety of the students or residence hall to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Job Responsibilities:
Work with the Director and Asst. Directors of Housing and Residence Life in the performance of his/her duties.
Document all witnessed violations of Residence Life and College policies occurring within any residence hall. Prepare and submit an appropriate report to the
Assist in the response to all emergency situations.
Housing is an essential office. If school is closed, you must be available.
Attend and participate in staff training held prior to each semester as needed.
Perform administrative tasks such as checking in and checking out students and guests, reporting maintenance concerns, answering the front desk phone, and answering questions as appropriate.
Attending one-to-one meetings with the directors or other staff as scheduled.
Keep the assigned work area clean from all food and clutter providing a professional space.
Monitor all individuals entering residence halls to ensure that only residents and their guests are permitted in the building.
Maintain order and behavior in the lobby area.
Never leave the desk unattended for any reason.
Organize study sessions in conjunction with the Academic Success Center.
Communicate information to students through the posting or distribution of notices and/or personal delivery of information.
Assist with special projects and large-scale campus events (City on the Yard, Career Expo)
Participate (escort residents) in and promote student participation in various activities on-campus (Chapel, Speaker series, etc.).
Assist with student attendance in classes and academic advising.
Monitor students for signs of homesickness.
Refer students to the Academic Success Center or Student Development.
Conduct programs that acquaints students with campus and community resources.
