The Stillman School of Education is committed to providing our students with the tools necessary to be highly skilled and successful educators, upon completion of their programs. Our mission is to train and develop educators who are professional, competent, content knowledgeable, technologically proficient, and innovative teachers.

Dr. Sharon J. Porterfield

Dean, School of Education

MEET THE DEAN

Dr. Sharon J. Porterfield, a native of Detroit, Michigan, received her B.S., M.A. and Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She received an additional Ed.S. degree in Educational Administration from Samford University and her Ed.D. in 
Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. After serving as Chair for the Division of Education at another HBCU school she later joined the Stillman College Community as Dean of the School of Education.

Serving as Dean of the School of Education, she supervises the performances of three academic departments within the School of Education and provides leadership for professional activities. Dr. Porterfield’s Educational Philosophy is to serve students, staff, and faculty, to work with faculty to offer students an excellent professional education that will provide them with the opportunities and the tools to gain meaningful global employment and to instill in faculty and students the habit of service, self-examination, and the habit of LEADERSHIP.
